Freiham combined heat and power plant
On the western outskirts of Munich, a completely new district is emerging: Freiham, one of Europe's largest urban development areas. Spanning 350 hectares, Freiham will provide housing for approximately 25,000 residents and create 7,500 jobs, making it a showcase for sustainable and future-oriented urban planning. What makes Freiham unique is not only its scale but also its planning process: alongside numerous architectural competitions, citizen dialogues and workshops ensure that this ambitious project is developed with a strong participatory foundation. Although the City of Munich acquired the site as early as 1963 as a settlement expansion area, real development only began recently.
