St.Moritz Church
The historic center of Augsburg has preserved its impressive urban layout, whose origins reach back to Roman times. Evolving over many centuries, it brings together outstanding examples of Renaissance, Baroque, and industrial architecture with contemporary interventions that continue the city’s historic fabric in a respectful way.
The Fuggerei is one of the oldest still-inhabited social housing estates in the world.
It is a unique example of social urban planning that clearly reflects the Fugger family’s social commitment in the 16th century.
In recent years, the old town has become a dynamic setting for architectural renewal: careful restorations, precise additions, and high-quality new buildings now shape the urban landscape, demonstrating how Augsburg continues to develop its identity between tradition and contemporary architecture.
On our guided architecture tour through Augsburg’s historic center, we present significant historical and contemporary buildings and explain the city’s urban development.
